Alyssa Mackenzie Home From Away
Home From Away is a series exploring the Caribbean culture in Toronto. Moving to Toronto has been one of the hardest adjustments I’ve made. I’m originally from Belize, where the weather is warm, and the sea is crystal clear. I had to adjust to the new weather, community, and the norms here. The only place I can go to feel at home is Kensington Market, where a lot of the Caribbean people have stores. They are some of the nicest and most welcoming people I’ve met. I felt welcomed into the community here. Despite being 3,189 miles (5,132 km) away from home, they have managed to make me feel at home. I documented the Caribbean culture in Kensington Market through the food, people, and culture.
